Abvy

Abvy vs Sunnyside

Two good apps, two different jobs. Compared honestly, September 2026.

Abvy's reading · September 2026
Sunnyside coaches next month's habits. Abvy measures tonight as it happens. If your question is "how much should I drink this week?", try Sunnyside - if it's "where am I right now, and when will I be clear?", that is Abvy's entire job.

Two different jobs

Sunnyside describes itself as an alcohol tracking, planning, and coaching app for mindful drinking - you set weekly targets, check in daily, and its coaching techniques (pre-commitment, conscious interference) work on your habits over weeks. It's a program, and by its own numbers a well-liked one.

Abvy has no program. You log drinks as you have them, and it computes a live estimate of your blood alcohol content from a published pharmacokinetic model - your body profile, your drinks, your timing. The result is a curve of tonight: where you are, where you're heading if you order another, and an estimated window for when you'll be back at zero. Planning apps look backward at your week; Abvy looks at the next three hours.

Where Sunnyside is strong

Structured habit change. If you want a weekly plan, a coach-like nudge each morning, and a community around moderation, Sunnyside is purpose-built for that and has years of reviews behind it. Abvy doesn't attempt any of it.

Where Abvy is different

  • A live picture, not a diary. The BAC curve updates as you log; pacing guidance answers "what happens if I have one more?" while the answer still matters.
  • The sober window. An estimated range for when you're back at zero - shown as a range, because an estimate pretending to be a measurement would be a lie.
  • On your wrist and your lock screen. An Apple Watch app, home-screen widgets, and a Live Activity that keeps tonight's curve visible without opening the app.
  • Drinks as you actually order them. A regional catalog - a pint in London, a Maß in Munich, a půllitr in Prague - in 15 languages.
  • A model you can read. Every constant in the estimate is published and cited on the methodology page. No competitor we track publishes theirs.

What we compared

  • Each app's own App Store listing, description and rating counts (September 18, 2026)
  • Feature claims verifiable from public listings and, for Abvy, from the shipped app
  • Listed languages and pricing models

What we didn't

  • Coaching quality or long-term outcomes of either program
  • Sunnyside's member results (the 29%-less figure is its own claim)
  • Anything requiring a paid Sunnyside subscription to verify

Abvy is an alcohol tracking app for iPhone and Android that estimates your blood alcohol content in real time as you log drinks. It draws tonight as a curve - where you are now, where the evening is heading, and an estimated window for when you'll be back at zero. It's built for people who drink and want to keep a good evening measured, not for quitting.

Track tonight as it happens - live estimate, sober window, and pacing on your own numbers.

Abvy estimates - it never measures. It is not a breathalyzer and can't tell you whether you're under a legal limit or fit to drive.
