Abvy

The best alcohol tracking apps in 2026

Written by the makers of one of them - so every claim below is dated, sourced, and checkable. September 2026.

Abvy's reading · September 2026
"Best" depends on the job. To see tonight as it happens - live estimate, pacing, sober window - that's Abvy. To drink less next month, Sunnyside or Reframe. To stop entirely, I Am Sober. Most bad app choices in this category are just category mistakes.

The three jobs

Every app in this space answers one of three questions. Where am I right now? - the live-measurement job: a BAC estimate, pacing, and a sober window during the evening. How do I drink less over time? - the coaching job: weekly targets, check-ins, habit programs. How do I stay stopped? - the sobriety job: streaks, milestones, community. The apps are not interchangeable, and the ones that try to do all three do none well.

Competitor columns reflect each app's own store listing and public description as of September 18, 2026; a dash means the listing doesn't offer the feature. Ratings are US App Store counts on that date. Yes, Abvy wrote this page - which is why everything in it is checkable.

If tonight is the question

Abvy is the only current app on this list built around a live blood-alcohol estimate: log drinks as you have them and it draws the evening as a curve - where you are, your estimated peak, when the next drink fits your pace, and an estimated window for reaching zero. It ships with an Apple Watch app, home-screen widgets and a lock-screen Live Activity, speaks 15 languages with region-correct drinks and serving sizes, and publishes every constant of its model. It is new for 2026 - the ratings history is short, the engineering is not.

If next month is the question

Sunnyside (4.8, 2,307 ratings) is the most focused moderation coach: weekly plans, daily check-ins, and habit techniques, deliberately not about sobriety. Reframe (4.7, 44,581) is the bigger program with a neuroscience framing and a large content library. Both are subscriptions; both work on the scale of weeks, not evenings.

If stopping is the question

I Am Sober (4.9, 187,090 ratings) is the category giant for a reason: streaks, milestones, and a strong community. TRY DRY (4.8, 2,897), by the UK charity Alcohol Change UK, is the home of Dry January and dry-spell challenges - and free. If your goal is zero, start there, not with a drink tracker.

The loggers

DrinkControl (4.8, 4,290 ratings, iPhone) is a polished unit-and-money logger with a privacy-first, on-device design - a good diary if a diary is all you want. AlcoDroid (1M+ installs, Android) is the veteran of the whole category with a basic BAC estimate, but its development has visibly slowed; it shows its age.

What we compared

  • Store listings, descriptions and rating counts of all seven apps (September 18, 2026)
  • Feature claims verifiable from public listings and, for Abvy, from the shipped app
  • Platform availability and pricing models

What we didn't

  • Coaching or program outcomes - we did not run the paid programs
  • Each vendor's own results claims (reported as theirs where mentioned)
  • Long-term retention or medical effectiveness of any approach

There is no single best - the category splits into three jobs. For a live blood-alcohol estimate and pacing during the evening, Abvy is built for exactly that. For coached moderation over weeks, Sunnyside and Reframe are the established programs. For quitting entirely, I Am Sober's streaks and community are the category standard. Pick by the job, not the rating.

Track tonight as it happens - live estimate, sober window, and pacing on your own numbers.

Abvy estimates - it never measures. It is not a breathalyzer and can't tell you whether you're under a legal limit or fit to drive.
